You can activate modules from different effect categories and arrange their order, to create the effect chain that best suits your vocal recording. Soloing allows you to judge the influence of a single module on the audio.
General Module Settings
The following settings are available for each module:
- Activate
- Solo
-
Solos the module. Only one module can be soloed at a time.
To make all parameters of a module available for editing, select it from the signal chain list on the left, or double-click the module header in the parameter section.
To change the processing order, you can rearrange modules within the Clean or Character category by dragging.
The following effect modules are available:
Cut Filter
This filter effect attenuates frequencies below the set low filter frequency and above the high filter frequency.
- Low Filter Slope/High Filter Slope
-
Set the slope of the low and high cut filter. You can choose 6 dB, 12 dB, 24 dB, 48 dB, or 96 dB per octave.
- Low Freq/High Freq
-
Set the frequency of the low and high cut filter. You can set the frequency either in Hz or as a note value. If you enter a note value, the frequency is automatically changed to Hz. For example, a note value of A3 sets the frequency to 440 Hz. When you enter a note value, you can also enter a cent offset; for example, A5 -23 or C4 +49.
Note-
You can adjust the Freq parameter of a band in the graphical editor by clicking the corresponding handle and moving the mouse left and right.
-
To ensure that the cent offsets are taken into account, enter a space between the note and the cent offset.
-
Gate
This effect silences audio signals below a set threshold. As soon as the signal level exceeds the threshold, the gate opens to let the signal through.
- Gain Reduction meter
-
Shows the amount of gain reduction.
- Thresh
-
Determines the threshold level at which the gate is activated. Signal levels above the set threshold open the gate and signal levels below the set threshold close the gate.
- Range
-
Adjusts the attenuation of the gate when it is closed. If Range is set to minus infinite , the gate is completely closed. The higher the value, the higher the level of the signal that passes through.
- Release
-
Sets the time after which the gate closes.
Pitch
This is a pitch-shifting effect that allows you to fix slight pitch and intonation inconsistencies.
Scale Source allows you to choose the scale to which the audio is shifted:
- Internal
-
Allows you to choose a scale from the Scale Type pop-up menu, to which the source audio is adapted.
-
Chromatic: Pitches the audio to the closest semitone.
-
Major/Minor: Pitches the audio to the major/minor scale, as specified on the pop-up menu to the right. This is reflected on the keyboard display.
-
- External – MIDI Scale
-
Allows you to shift the audio to a scale of target pitches, using an external MIDI controller, the On-Screen Keyboard, or a MIDI track.
NoteYou have to assign the audio track as the output of your MIDI track, and the Speed parameter has to be set to a value other than Off.
- External – MIDI Note
-
Allows you to shift the audio to a target note, using an external MIDI controller, the Virtual Keyboard, or a MIDI track.
NoteYou have to assign the audio track as the output of your MIDI track, and the Correct parameter has to be set to a value greater than 0%.
- Chord Track – Chords
-
Allows you to shift the audio to target chords, using the chord information from the Chord track.
NoteYou have to add a MIDI track in addition to the chord track and assign Vocal Chain as the output of the MIDI track.
- Chord Track – Scale
-
Allows you to shift the audio to a scale of target pitches, using the scale information from the Chord track.
NoteYou have to add a MIDI track in addition to the chord track and assign Vocal Chain as the output of the MIDI track.
- Detune
-
Adjusts the pitch of the incoming audio in semitone steps. A value of zero means that the signal is not transposed.
- Correct
-
Determines the smoothness of the pitch change. Higher values cause the pitch shift to occur immediately. 100% is a very drastic setting that is usually reserved for special effects.
- Formant
-
Changes the natural timbre, that is, the characteristic frequency components of the source audio.
De-Esser I/II
This is a de-essing effect, a special type of compressor that reduces excessive sibilance.
You can use the frequency display for the following purposes:
-
To adjust the frequency band, drag its left or right borders, or click in the middle of the band and drag.
-
To change the width of the frequency band, hold Shift, and drag to the left or right.
- Diff
-
Plays back what De-Esser I removed from the signal. This helps you to adjust the frequency band, threshold, and reduction parameters, so that only sharp s-sounds are removed, for example.
- Listen
-
Solos the frequency band. This helps you to find the appropriate position and width of the band.
- Gain Reduction meter
-
Shows the amount of gain reduction.
- Reduction
-
Controls the intensity of the de-essing effect.
- Auto
-
Automatically and continually sets an optimum threshold setting, independent of the input signal. The Auto option does not work for low-level signals (< -30 db peak level). To reduce the sibilants in such a file, set the threshold manually.
- Threshold (-50 to 0 dB)
-
If the Auto option is deactivated, you can use this control to set a threshold for the incoming signal level, above which the plug-in starts to reduce the sibilants.
- Freq Low/Freq High
-
Sets the left and right border of the frequency band. You can set the frequency either in Hz or as a note value. If you enter a note value, the frequency is automatically displayed in Hz accordingly. For example, a note value of A3 sets the frequency to 440 Hz. When you enter a note value, you can also enter a cent offset; for example, A5 -23 or C4 +49.
NoteTo ensure that the cent offsets are taken into account, enter a space between the note and the cent offset.
- Release (1 to 1000 ms)
-
Sets the time after which the de-essing effect returns to zero when the signal drops below the threshold.
Dyn Filter I
This is a 2-band dynamic peak filter. Each band allows for individual side-chain settings.
- Gain Reduction meter
-
Shows the amount of gain reduction.
- Gain
-
Sets the target gain value for the corresponding band.
Note-
You can adjust this parameter in the graphical editor by Ctrl/Cmd-clicking the corresponding handle and moving the mouse up and down.
-
- Freq
-
Sets the frequency.
Note-
You can adjust the Freq parameter of a band in the graphical editor by Alt/Opt-clicking the corresponding handle and moving the mouse left and right.
-
To ensure that the cent offsets are taken into account, enter a space between the note and the cent offset.
