Vocoder allows you to use an external carrier; for example, a synthesizer.

Prerequisite

  • Your project contains an audio track with audio material that is suited to serve as a modulator source; for example, a voice sample.

    Note

The modulator source can be audio material from any audio track. If your audio hardware allows for a low input latency, you can also use a live audio source routed to an audio track.

  • Your project contains an audio or instrument track with audio that is suited to serve as a carrier; for example, a synth pad sound.

Procedure

  1. Select Vocoder as an insert effect for the audio track with the modulator signal.
  2. On the Vocoder plug-in panel, make sure MIDI mode is set to External.
    MIDI mode set to External
  3. On the plug-in panel toolbar, activate side-chaining.

  4. Set the output of the track that you want to serve as the carrier to the side-chain input of the Vocoder plug-in.

    Note

For more information about using side-chaining, see the Operation Manual.

Result

On playback, a typical vocoder effect is created; that is, the voice signal sings in the harmonies of the synth pad sound.
