You can use the figured bass popover to input figures and suspensions.

Type of figure

Popover entry

Figures (1-19)

1, 2, 3, and so on, up to 19

Tip

Dorico automatically arranges figure numbers in ascending order.

Multiple figures

6#42 or 6,#4,2

Tip

To remove ambiguity, separate figures with commas.

Bracketed figures or accidentals

Enclose in round brackets, such as (#643), #64(3), or (#)643

Hide figures

Enclose in <> or {}, such as <3> or {3}

Figures determined by chord symbols

Dorico Elements automatically converts chord symbols, as you would enter into the chord symbols popover, into correct figured bass.

Em7, Amaj7, G/B, and so on

Suspension with resolution

Separate figures with ->, _, or ~

For example, 4->3, 4_3, or 4~3

Suspension duration (between suspension and resolution figures) in quarter notes

r= followed by the number of quarter notes, such as r=2

Suspension duration matches the bass note duration

r=n or r=note

Suspension duration as a fraction of the bass note duration

r= followed by the fraction and n, such as r=1/2n

Hold duration in quarter notes

d= followed by the number of quarter notes, such as d=2

Hold duration matches the bass note duration

d=n or d=note

Hold duration as a fraction of the bass note duration

d= followed by the fraction and n, such as d=1/2n
