You can edit the appearance and arrangement of single chord symbol instances, without changing their corresponding project default appearances. For example, if you want the first Gmaj7 chord symbol to appear differently than all subsequent Gmaj7 chord symbols.
Note

We recommend only editing chord symbol appearances manually if selecting the most appropriate chord symbol appearance preset, customizing the accompanying options, and changing the chord symbol font styles has not produced the required chord symbol appearances.

Prerequisite

Graphic Editing is selected in the Engrave toolbox.

Procedure
  1. In Engrave mode, open the Edit Chord Symbol Appearance dialog for the chord symbol whose appearance you want to edit in any of the following ways:
    • Select the chord symbol, then press Return.

    • Double-click the chord symbol.

  2. In the editor, select a chord symbol component that you want to edit.
  3. Edit the selected chord symbol component in any of the following ways:
    • Use the controls to move and change the size of components.

    • In the components list, select an alternative component to replace the selected component.

  4. If none of the available components suits your requirements, select the component that is the closest match, then open the Edit Chord Symbol Component dialog in one of the following ways:
    • To create a new component that starts as a copy of the selected component, click Add Component in the action bar.

    • To edit the selected component, click Edit Component in the action bar.

  5. Customize the appearance of the component.
    Tip

To edit individual symbols within stacked or merged components, such as the accidentals in  911”, double-click them in the editor. To navigate back through levels of components, click the buttons above the editor.

  6. Click OK to save your changes and close the dialog.
Result

The chord symbol appearance is updated in the current project.
