System-attached items are items that apply to all staves in the system and appear in all layouts, but are not necessary to show on every staff in full score layouts. For example, it is important for all players to see tempo marks and rehearsal marks in their parts, but an orchestral full score would appear very cluttered if these notations were shown on every staff.

In Dorico Elements, the following items are considered system-attached items:

  • Rehearsal marks

  • Repeat endings

  • Repeat markers

  • System-attached text

  • Tempo marks

  • Time signatures shown above the staff

  • Horizontal lines that apply to all staves

You can show system-attached items at multiple positions in each system by showing them above either bracketed/braced groups or specific players. For example, in an orchestral full score, showing system-attached items above the woodwind, brass, percussion, and string families ensures that they are evenly spread out across the page, meaning no staff is very far from important markings.

You can also show rehearsal marks and repeat endings additionally below the bottom staff.

Note

The size of system-attached items with font styles set to Staff-relative is determined by the staff size of the staves below them. Font styles that are set to Absolute are unaffected by staff size.
