You can enable/disable MIDI thru at any time. For example, you can enable MIDI thru during note input to hear sounds from your MIDI keyboard, but disable MIDI thru during playback to hear the sounds produced by Dorico Elements.
Procedure
- Press Ctrl/Cmd-, to open Preferences.
- In the category list, click Play.
- In the Recording subsection, activate/deactivate Enable MIDI thru.
- Click Apply, then Close.
Result
The setting is changed in the current project and for all future projects.

You can assign a key command for Toggle MIDI Thru on the Key Commands page in Preferences.
