You can automatically generate notes based on chord symbols you have already input. You can influence many related variables, such as which instruments play bass notes.

Prerequisite

You have chosen the appropriate settings for the notes you want to generate on the Notes from Chord Symbols page in Note Input Options.

Procedure

  1. In Write mode, on the staves onto which you want to generate notes from chord symbols, select items that span the required duration.
  2. Choose Edit > Notations > Chord Symbols and Diagrams > Generate Notes from Chord Symbols in Selection to open the Generate Notes From Chord Symbols dialog. You can also choose this option from the context menu.
  3. Change the settings as required.

For example, you can change the rhythm of generated notes, and the order in which pitches are distributed to instruments in each group.

  4. Click OK to save your changes and close the dialog.

Result

Notes are generated based on chord symbols in the selected range and your settings. Notes are distributed to the selected staves, with voicings determined by the instrument order you set.

Tip

You can assign a key command for Generate Notes from Chord Symbols in Selection on the Key Commands page in Preferences.
