Changing the number of staves for instruments

You can change the default number of staves used for each instrument, set whether staves are joined by brackets or braces, and determine the span of brackets/braces. For example, organs typically require three staves, with only the top two staves joined by a brace.

Procedure

1. Choose Library > Instruments to open the Edit Instruments dialog.
2. In the instruments list, select the instrument whose number of staves you want to change.
3. In the Staves and Clefs section, change the value for Number of staves.
4. Optional: For instruments with two or more staves, to change which staves are joined by a bracket/brace, change the value for Span of bracket.
5. Optional: For instruments with two or more staves, choose one of the following join types:

   • Brace

   • Bracket

6. Optional: To make your changes the default for the selected instrument in all future projects, click Save as Default in the instruments list action bar.
7. Click OK to save your changes and close the dialog.
