The Live Stage dialog allows you to change the arrangement of instruments in the current project, which affects their panning and reverb settings in the Mixer in real time.

  • You can open the Live Stage dialog by clicking Live Stage in the Mixer toolbar.

Live Stage dialog

The Live Stage dialog provides a visual representation of a stage, as seen from above. The back of the stage is at the top of the dialog, while the front of the stage is at the bottom of the dialog.

The horizontal axis determines pan positions, from left to right. The vertical axis determines the amount of sound sent to FX channels for reverb; typically, from low reverb at the bottom to more reverb at the top.

Each instrument in the project appears as a colored dot, representing its stage position, followed by its full instrument name. Each instrument family uses a different color.

You can click and drag instruments to new stage positions.

The action bar at the bottom of the dialog contains the following options:

Save as New Stage Template

Saves the current arrangement of instruments in the Live Stage dialog as a new custom stage template, allowing you to use it in future projects.

Expand

Moves instruments proportionally outwards. Applies to either only selected instruments, or all instruments when no instruments are selected.

Contract

Moves instruments proportionally inwards. Applies to either only selected instruments, or all instruments when no instruments are selected.

Note

Instruments do not appear in the Live Stage dialog in any of the following circumstances:

  • If their expression/map settings prevent them from using space templates.

  • If they use MIDI instruments for playback, rather than VST instruments.
