The Mixer page allows you to set up the mix of your piano sound. You can specify which microphone channels you want to use by activating/deactivating them, adjust their levels and pan positions within the mix, send portions of the microphone signals to a reverb channel, and control the overall volume, stereo width, and pan position via the master channel.

Microphone Channels

The microphone positions have been selected carefully, to provide the best mixing capabilities while avoiding phase issues.

Player

The samples for the Player microphone channel were recorded using a stereo pair of small cardioid condenser microphones, positioned above the hammers of the piano, from the perspective of the player.

Mid

The samples for the Mid microphone channel were recorded using two large diaphragm condenser microphones, placed on the bentside of the rim, close to the position of the lid prop.

Tail

The samples for the Tail microphone channel were recorded using a stereo pair of small omnidirectional condenser microphones, placed at a medium distance from the tail end of the piano.

Room

The samples for the Room microphone channel were recorded using a pair of small omnidirectional condenser microphones in an AB configuration, capturing the piano from a distance.

Reverb and Master Channels

Reverb

The Reverb channel allows you to apply reverb not to an entire microphone signal, but to the signal portion specified via the Reverb Send fader. The Reverb channel receives these signal portions from the microphone channels and sends them into the Reverb effect.

Master

The Master channel allows you to set the overall Volume, Pan, and Stereo Width for the piano.

Channel Strip Parameters

  1. Microphone On/Off allows you to activate/deactivate playback of the corresponding microphone channel. If playback is deactivated for a channel, you can no longer adjust the channel strip controls.

    Note

    This control is only available for microphone channels.

  2. Reverb Send allows you to specify the amount of the signal that is sent from a microphone channel to the reverb channel.

    This control is only available for microphone channels.

  3. Stereo Width allows you to adjust the stereo width of the channel.

  4. Pan allows you to position the signal in the stereo panorama.

  5. Mute allows you to mute the corresponding channel.

  6. Solo allows you to solo the corresponding channel.

  7. Volume allows you to set the volume of a channel.

    The level meter on the right provides you with a graphical representation of the volume level.
