You can set up the frequency range that is taken into account by the Formant Shift function. If the frequencies of the formant range are set up adequately for your sample, more bass and high frequencies are preserved when you play lower or higher pitches. This usually sounds better for samples of acoustic instruments, for example.
Procedure

Play back the sample or use the position locator in the spectrogram at the top of the Analysis tab to see how the spectrum changes over time.

Activate Show Spectral Envelope and look for stable peaks in the spectrum.
Tip
Usually, you can find two or three stable peaks above the lowest frequency in the spectrum.

Set the Formant Range Low Frequency and Formant Range High Frequency parameters to the lowest and the highest frequency that you identified in step 2 by observing the spectral envelope.

On the Osc page, activate Formant Shift to monitor the effect, and Ctrl/Cmd-click the Formant Shift parameters to set them to their default values.

Play pitches other than the Root Key of the associated zone, and adapt the settings to you liking.
Tip
The default frequency range from 500 Hz to 5000 Hz works for most acoustic instruments. If the majority of the formants are outside this range, adjust the formant range to achieve better results.
