In the MPE editor, you can specify for each MIDI port whether it uses one or two zones, how many member channels you want to use and which MIDI controllers are translated into which Note Expression controllers.
For the parameters to become available, you must activate the Enable MPE Handling
button in the top right corner of the editor.
- Port Selector Buttons
-
The four buttons at the top of the window allow you to select one of the available ports: Port A, Port B, Port C, or Port D
- Lower Zone/Upper Zone
-
MPE can use two zones, which can each occupy a separate slot in the Slot Rack. Each zone has one master channel and can contain several member channels. The actual notes with their individual expression data are transmitted on the member channels.
-
The Lower Zone uses the lower MIDI channels, starting with channel 1.
Channel 1 is the master channel and channels two and upwards are the member channels.
-
The Upper Zone uses the upper MIDI channels, starting with channel 16 and counting down.
Channel 16 is the master channel, and channels 15 and downwards are the member channels.
-
- Member Channels
-
Allows you to specify the number of member channels that you want to use.
- Pitchbend Range Master/Pitchbend Range Member
-
Allows you to set the range of the pitch bend controller for the master channel and for the member channels. Typically, the master channel uses a range of +/- 2 semitones to apply standard pitchbend, whereas the pitchbend controllers on the member channels can use a significantly larger range.
Note-
The pitchbend ranges are only used if Pitchbend is translated to NE - Tuning.
-
MIDI hardware controllers can also set these ranges externally via MIDI controller messages.
-
- MIDI CC
-
Allows you to specify which incoming controllers are received and used for MPE.
By default, Aftertouch is assigned to NE - Volume and Pitchbend is assigned to NE - Tuning, ensuring that even programs that are not specifically configured for MPE respond along these two dimensions.
- Note Expression
-
Allows you to specify to which Note Expression controller the incoming MIDI controllers are mapped. The available Note Expression controllers are NE - Volume, NE - Tune, and NE - Pan, which always affect notes without requiring any additional modulation mapping. In addition, 8 additional Note Expression controllers are available. They can be freely assigned in the modulation matrix.
- Activity Indicator
-
Each assignment row features an activity indicator that lights up when the corresponding controller sends data.
- Min/Max
-
Allows you to set the maximum range of the Note Expression controllers. This is particularly helpful for the three fixed-assignment controllers NE - Volume, NE - Tune, and NE - Pan, which cannot otherwise be modified. Any other assigned Note Expression controllers can be configured in greater detail in the modulation matrix.
- Smoothing
-
Allows you to enable MIDI controller data smoothing for the fixed-assignment controllers NE - Volume, NE - Tune, and NE - Pan.
You can adjust the Smoothing parameters in the Edit/MIDI section of the Options page.
- Delete Assignment
-
Deletes the current assignment from the row.
- Preset Management
-
You can save and load the settings for the Lower Zone and the Upper Zone separately to quickly manage adjustments for different hardware controllers or instruments.
-
Select opens a panel where you can navigate to and load a preset.
-
Save allows you to save the current assignments for the zone as preset.
-
Delete deletes the current preset.
-
Reset to Default resets all rows to their default assignments.
