How to resell Steinberg hardware (resale)

When selling used Steinberg hardware, the status of the registration of the hardware as well as the included software needs to be considered.

Unregistered Hardware

If the device is not registered with a MySteinberg account on www.steinberg.de/mysteinberg and you haven't registered or activated the included software (so called OEM versions), you can sell it as unregistered hardware without further ado.

It depends on the vintage of the device if it can be registered by the new owner. If there are no support offers available for a product anymore registration is neither necessary nor possible.

Registered Hardware

You only need to delete the registration of the device in your MySteinberg account. This is quite easy!

  • Log in to your MySteinberg account.
  • Select "Products" on the left and click on "Show eLicenser-based products".
  • Switch to the "Hardware" view on the "My products" page.
  • Click on the entry of the hardware you are planning to sell.
  • In the extended entry click on 'Delete Registration'.
  • Confirm the deletion by clicking on 'Continue'.

As soon as the deletion has been completed the device can be sold as unregistered. The re-registration can be made by the new owner and does not differ from the registration of newly purchased Steinberg hardware.

Included Software (OEM Versions)

In case the device came with bundled software, it is crucial to consider the registration of the licenses.

If you include already activated and registered software according to the original scope of supply (which is recommended), the licenses need to be tranferred to the new owner.

In this case, please refer to the Resale Wizard for Steinberg Software.

If you decide to keep software and license, you should point that out in your offer. Buyers expect to receive the original scope of supply including software, even if a device is second hand.

Recommended Scope of Supply

A complete offer should include:

  • Hardware
  • Driver Installation Disk (CD, DVD)
  • Installation Disk for Included OEM Software (for example Cubase LE 4 or Cubase AI 4)
  • Manual(s)
  • Original Box

Please always point out to missing components in your offer. This is also valid for originally included software and licenses your want to keep for your own.
