Locations of internal VST plug-ins in Cubase and Nuendo

This article shows where to find the internal plug-ins that come with Cubase and Nuendo.

Please note that the information on internal plug-ins locations is provided for troubleshooting purposes only. The internal plug-in folders are part of the program folder of Cubase/Nuendo and must not be changed - which also means that they are not the right place for installing additional VST plug-ins. Detailed information on locations of additional VST plug-ins can be found here:

Windows

VST2 C:\Program Files\Steinberg\your Cubase or Nuendo version\VstPlugins
VST3 C:\Program Files\Steinberg\your Cubase or Nuendo version\VST3

32-bit installations of Cubase/Nuendo on 64-bit versions of Windows:

VST2 C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\your Cubase or Nuendo version\VstPlugins
VST3 C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\your Cubase or Nuendo version\VST3

Mac OS X and macOS

VST2 Applications/your Cubase or Nuendo version/Contents/VstPlugins
VST3 Applications/your Cubase or Nuendo version/Contents/VST3

The Contents folder is included in the Cubase/Nuendo application package. Here is how to access it:

  • Go to 'Applications' on your system disk.
  • Ctrl-click or right-click on your Cubase or Nuendo version.
  • Select 'Show Package contents' from the contextual menu that pops up.
  • A new windows opens showing the Contents folder of your Cubase or Nuendo version.
