macOS 10.14 Mojave: Cubase/Nuendo would like to access your contacts

Problem

When starting Cubase (or Nuendo), the message "'Cubase' ("Nuendo") would like to access your contacts" appears.

Cause

The problem is being caused by the ReWire component by Propellerheads. As soon as Cubase is initializing the ReWire component during start-up, the message appears.

ReWire component versions that are included in releases up to Cubase 9.5.30 and Nuendo 8.2.10 do not work correctly with the updated privacy features in Mojave.

Please note that neither Cubase nor Nuendo support macOS 10.14 officially yet!

Solution

Propellerheads confirmed the issue and released a Rewire component version to us (as of writing: version 1.8.7.145) that fixes the error.
This new component will be part of our next maintenance updates and it will most likely be available from Propellerheads separately soon as well.

Please note that this is the only reason for the message on start-up! We do not need access to your contacts and have no intention to do so in the future.
