macOS Mojave and Catalina: eLicenser Control error

Problem

When using eLicenser protected products (plug-ins, VST Instruments) in 3rd party host applications, an error occurs: "eLicenser Control - Error - Application 'Synsopos.app' could not be started"

Background

This can occur with any software product of any software vendor utilizing Steinberg’s eLicenser license management solution when loaded by a notarized host application on macOS 10.14 Mojave and macOS 10.15 Catalina. In this case, a specific entitlement is missing in the hardened runtime of the host application.

Here is a list of host applications that are currently compatible, because the entitlement has been added to the hardened runtime or there is no notarization included at all:

  • Ableton Live
  • Bitwig Studio
  • Digital Performer
  • Fruity Loops
  • Logic Pro
  • Presonus Studio One
  • Pro Tools
  • Reaper

Solution

We are in close contact with developers regarding the implementation and to fix the issue as soon as possible. At the same time, we work on a permanent and independent solution ourselves to reduce dependencies.
