UR-C: Audio dropouts in SuperSpeed (USB 3.1 Gen 1) mode

When a UR-C audio interface (UR22C, UR44C, UR816C) is being used in SuperSpeed (USB 3.1 Gen1) mode, audio dropouts may occur depending on the system's USB host controller.

The dropouts seem to be related to the following USB controllers when the UR-C interface is being used in SuperSpeed (USB 3.1 Gen1) mode:

• ASMedia USB host controllers with Windows 10 standard USB driver by Microsoft
• AMD X470 / X370 chipset

In these cases, the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver control panel typically gives out an 'USB Signal Error' warning.

Switch to High-Speed (USB 2.0) mode in the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver control panel.

If High-Speed (USB 2.0) mode is being used, the data transfer rate will be decreased, but this will not affect the functionality of the UR-C audio interfaces. Other performance values such as latency will not change.

 

If your audio device is connected to an ASMedia USB host controller and the Windows 10 standard USB driver by Microsoft is being used, switch to the standard ASMedia driver.

• Open Device Manager.
• Select 'Devices by connection' from the 'View' menu.
  
  
  
  
• Look for the USB host controller device to which your audio interface is connected.
  
  
  
  
• Right-click on the USB host controller and select 'Properties' from the contextual menu popping up.
• Select the 'Driver' tab.
• The detail 'Driver Provider' shows the driver's origin.

• On the 'Details' tab, select 'Hardware Ids'.
• Verify if the vendor ID of the PCI device is ASMedia (PCI\VEN_1B21).

 

• Let Windows search and update the driver automatically.
• In the 'Driver' tab in the Properties of the USB host controller, click 'Update Driver' and select 'Search automatically for updated driver software'.

 

• If the ASMedia driver cannot be found automatically, obtain the latest driver from the website of the manufacturer of the motherboard or the expansion card on which the USB host controller is installed and update the driver manually.
