Windows: Steinberg software freezes due to unavailable network drive, server, or cloud storage service

Problem

Your Steinberg software occasionally freezes under Windows for no apparent reason. This may affect Cubase, Dorico, HALion, Nuendo, and WaveLab.

Background

Freezes may occur when a Steinberg application attempts to access files that are unavailable because they are stored on a disconnected

  • remote server,
  • network drive,
  • or a cloud storage service like Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, or iCloud.

All file formats used by your Steinberg software can cause the freeze, for example, audio files, video files, projects, or presets.  

Workaround

Unfortunately, we have not found a solution to this issue yet.

Please ensure your computer maintains a stable connection to any network drives, remote servers or cloud storage services in use.
